Venetian Arsenal | Corfu | The Shipyard of Rulers
Updated: Apr 29
The Venetian arsenal at Gouvia, just 8 Km from the capital city, was a shipyard built and operated by the Venetians during their rule of Corfu.
The shipyard was part of a national Venetian network of arsenals and naval stations (Aegean Sea, Epirus, Peloponnese, Crete, Methoni, Chalkida, Preveza, Chania, Heraklion). The arsenal's location is strategic for ship repairs, near forested zones with high quality wood.
