Taygetos Who?

The name Taygetos is also used for the highest mountain of the range (or else called Profitis Elias), while the section that constitutes the backbone of the Mani Peninsula is known as Sagias. The mountain is a very popular hiking destination in Greece and it constitutes part of the European walking route E4.

Geography & Climate

Taygetos Mountain is located in the southeastern part of the Peloponnese peninsula, stretching from the Gulf of Messenia to the Laconian Gulf. The mountain range covers an area of approximately 1000 square kilometers, with its highest peak, Profitis Ilias, reaching an elevation of 2407 meters above sea level. The climate of Taygetos is characterized by hot summers and cold winters, with snowfall occurring at higher altitudes during the winter months.
