Diros Cave, part of an underground river and located around 15 Km south of Areopoli, can be accessed at a length of 5 Km by small boats through narrow passages.
In ancient times the cave served as a place of worship, believed to be an entrance to Ades, the underworld. The most famous of the caves are Alepotrypa and Vlychada. For Alepotrypa, archaeological evidence has revealed that it is one of the largest neolithic burial sites in Europe.
