Nikos Koundouros [born in Crete in 1926] was a famous Greek film director. After being exiled to the Makronissos prison island during the war, he decided to follow a career in cinematography. He started as a director of the film "Magiki Polis" (1954). After the release of his film "O Drakos", he became accepted as an artist and succeeded awards in international and Greek film festivals. His film "Young Aphrodites" won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival.
