Doirani Lake | The Battle Waters
Updated: Apr 16
Doirani Lake is a round-shaped lake with an area of 43.1 km2 (depth of 10 m.) shared between Greece and North Macedonia.
East of the lake lies the village Mouries and south the city of Doirani. The north-to-south length is 8,9 km and the east-to-west length is 7,1 km. Many battles took place in World War I on the Greek side, between the allies and the Bulgarians. Today, after a period of overuse for agricultural purposes, the lake is healthy and sustained.
