Kalarites was firstly inhabited in the 11th or 12th century by Vlachs.
During the Ottoman Empire, it developed highly its local economy through cattle breeding and trade (both internal and external). Kalarites was a very active village in the revolution of the Greek nation against the Ottomans in 1821, with all its families, thus it was destroyed by the Ottomans and abandoned from its inhabitants. The inhabitants returned to the village around 1828 and rebuilt it. In 1975, the village was declared "under preservation".
