Religious Tourism in Greece
Updated: Nov 23, 2019
Religious or Faith Tourism is the alternative tourism type in which people travel to visit monasteries, churches and pilgrimage sites for leisure (sightseeing), for prayer or for specific missions (humanitarian).
Religious tourists wish to visit the place of birth or death of saints, or the place of their spiritual awakening, or locations where miracles were performed or witnessed, or generally sites that have been seen to have special spiritual powers. Such sites may be commemorated with temples that pilgrims want to visit for their own spiritual benefit: to be healed or have questions answered.
